CROTHERS/BARBER/find death records, 1859-Lakeport

Help, please. Am researching the family of James Crothers, who moved to St. Clair county in 1852 from Canada, with a family of 9 or 11 children (depending on the record). His wife died in 1859. Their son lived in Lakeport;I'm not sure where they lived, since I just discovered this is where they settled. In 1865, James remarried Mary BARBER.

If anyone has suggestions on methods of researching St. Clair county, I'd certainly appreciate it! (will order LDS films, of course - but are local resources available?)
