Attempting to trace ancestry of my GGGgrandfather John Matteson (later Mattison) to Genesee or Onandaga Co NY in the early 1800s. I believe he may be a son of Abraham Matteson b. 1781 Shaftsbury VT and. Betsey Woodward m.1800 VT, moved to Onandaga then Genesee (Darien Twp) around 1808. John was born ca 1807, so if a son of Abraham could have been born either in Onondaga or Genesee. Other info (most without source documentation) found in my research indicates other children of Abraham were Hiram b. 1801 VT, Samuel b. 1809 NY, Norman b.1810 NY, Beriah b. 1812 VT[?] and James b. 1813 NY. There were supposedly nine children in all.
By 1850 census my John and James are neighbors in Lexington Twp, Sanilac Co (earlier St Clair) MI. John’s wife was Elizabeth (Betsy) Banigan, also of NY. John went to Monroe Co MI by 1860 and I have traced him from there forward. James is still in Sanilac in 1880. I am only supposing they are brothers and would like further verification of their ancestry. Any help appreciated!
