I'm hoping some of the many Albemarle experts on this forum can help me. While I've traced other lines much further back, I'm stuck on my paternal Walker line. My g-g-g grandparents were Robert M. Walker and Matilda A. Watson. They married 18 April 1826 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Their known children from census records were William, Matilda, Jane, Sarah, and Robert Matthew Erwin Thomas Walker, my great great grandfather (one man with five names).
I recently found an abstract of Robert and Matilda's 1826 marriage bond. They were married by Rev. Walker Timberlake, (a possible clue), and then for some reason they had four witnesses to the bond (a "shot-gun" wedding perhaps?). The witnesses were William Watson, David Mooney, Johnson Rowe, and Alexander Jameson.
In starting to do research on the witnesses, I noticed that Alexander Jameson was the g-grandson of Matthew Erwin, the Scottish immigrant, which probably explains some of my own g-grandfather's middle names. I also discovered that Alexander Jameson witnessed the marriage of Robert Michie, "Jr." and Elizabeth Walker, Robert Michie being the son of Robert Michie "Sr." and Ann Watson.
With cousins marrying cousins so frequently at that time, I would think that someone, somewhere has an idea of who Robert Walker and Matilda Watson were, and how they were related to some of these other Walker and Watson families.
