In response to my first message I was sent this copy of the 1850 Carroll County, Mississipi census.
Hello, Saw your query on genforum re: Henry Watson Michie. There was a matthew Michie in Carroll Co. MS - 1850 census
Matthew Michie 1792 VA died - >1850
Elizabeth S. 1802 ALA died - > 1850
Thomas 1834
Mary A. 1836
Martha 1838
Sarah 1840
Henry 1841
Louisa 1842
E. (f) 1843
Laura 1844
Newton 1846
Matthew 1848
I believe they were in Ala before MS.
Matthew's parents were John and Lucy Michie ( her maiden name was also Michie). John's parents were James Michie and Elizabeth Watson.
Lucy's parents were Robert Michie and Anna Watson. James and Robert were brothers and sons of Scotch John Michie of Virginia. Elizabeth and Anna were sisters and daughters of James Watson.
James Watson and Scotch John Michie were friends from Scotland.
It shows a Matthew Michie married to an Elizabeth S. One of their children was listed as Henry b. 1841. Is there anyone who knows if this is Henry Watson Michie who married Mattie Alma Manire? I can see the possibility of a connection since he lived in Carroll County and he would be about the right age. I do not know when Henry Watson was born so this would be a great break through to me.
Cheryl Gibson
