Hello-
I have Martha Jane Mikesell, daughter of John Huff Mikesell, b. 27 June 1802, d. 23 October 1882, who married Phoebe H. Burch/Burtch, b. 16 January 1800 (some say 1801), d. 23 March 1869. These dates came from either a message board post or a Gedcom from other researchers. Other researchers indicate that Phoebe's line can be traced back to the Mayflower. John Huff's back to 1600's in Germany.
Martha Jane was born 11 January 1838 (this date calculated from her gravestone) and died 13 May 1880 (taken from gravestone). Martha Jane shares a gravestone with her daughter Cora I. The gravestone stands about 5 to 6 feet tall and is inscribed as follows (dashes indicate a new line):
CORA I. - DAU OF - M. J. & C. ALLEY - DIED - MAR 9, 1876 -Aged - 1yr. 3mo. 9d.
below Cora's info is Martha's:
M. J. -WIFE OF -C. ALLEY - DIED -MAY 13, 1880 -AGED - 42Y. 4M. 2D
There is an additional inscription below this but I can make out only a portion of it:
xxx xxx our house hold
x xxx xx loved is stilled
I (A?) place is xxx at any hearth
That now can be filled
Martha married Cyrus Alley, son of Elihu Alley, b. 8 March 1803 (calculated from gravestone) ,d. 18 February 1871 (from gravestone) and Catharine Carr (Katherine Karr), b. 25 January 1801 (from gravestone), d. 4 July 1881 (from gravestone). Cyrus' gravestone, also tall, is next to Cora and Martha's and is inscribed as follows:
CYRUS ALLEY; BORN IN; BARTHOLIMEW; CO. IND.; MAR 14, 1829; DIED ATWOOD, KAN.; MARRIED DEC 16, 1855
Next to Cyrus's grave is their daughter Abbie's marker, which has been broken, but rests upon its base.
Cyrus' father and mother are also buried nearby. They are all buried in the Red Rock Cemetery, north of Knoxville, Iowa.
So far, I have only 6 children for Cyrus and Martha:
Delila, b. ca 1857
Phebe, b. 20 Dec 1857, d. 3 Mar 1858
Ada, b. ca 1859, d. 9 Feb 1864
Doddridge W., b. 16 Nov 1860
Cora I., b. 29 Nov 1874, d. 9 Mar 1876
Abbie A., b. 27 May 1876; d. 22 Jan 1895. m. L. S. Carpenter
Phebe, Ada, Doddridge, and Cora all died very early in their lives.
Hope this helps and gets you going in the right direction.
