my family of milanos originated from amalfi. ( although there is some mention of sicilly too) they came to england in the late 1800s to camberwell and set up an ice cream shop. the father was franscesco and the mother was arcangela.( which is my mothers name) we are not sure where she is from ligorno? unless that is her original surname. we are also not sure if they were married in england or italy or met on the boat. he was a diver in amalfi and there was a big milano communty there once. we visited a while back and one of the hotels in the centre was run by a luigi milano (which was my grandfathers name) the first thing he said was "we are jewish really you know!" my grandfather certainly looked jewish and so do we, so i am in little doubt it was true. i would love to know more about the family origins and any further connections. it was always normal for the italians to name the first born son after the father's father and the first born girl after the father's mother for those researching this can help when tracing grandparents etc.
