Third Generation
————————————————————————————————————————
4. Lily Mae KEIFER. Daughter of KEIFER & Bathsheba/Bethsheba MILFORD. Born Jan 23,
1880 in Pulaski County Illinois. Died Jun 28, 1959. Buried in St. John's Cemetery.
Research: Lily Mae Keifer was the daughter of Bathsheba Milford Keifer and ? Keifer. She was born 1-23-1880 and died 6-28-1959. Dad and I were building a line fence on the east side of the farm when Mom came and said that she had been taken to the hospital. She
died later that night of a perforated ulcer.
Lily Mae married Enoch Hase sometime after all of her children had left home. Enoch had
a small farm just south of Mill Creek, IL. Later Dad and Uncle Bill bought a small house on about five acres ( mostly straight up and down) on the west side of Mill Creek for Enoch and her.
Enoch had six children which Grandma helped raise. I think that there were three boys
and three girls, Sylus (sic) was a barber and had a farm just west of Dongola. There was a boy named Arthur, but I don't know much about him. Orvis went to Kempier Military Academy and was Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He was captured in Corrigidor W.W.II and survived the Battan Death March only to be killed when the Americans accidentally bombed their own ship.
One of the girls went through nursing school and retired from the Army as a full bird
Colonel. I don't know much about the others. I do know that Grandma never had much, BUT she raised 12 people who went on to achieve much more than anyone thought that
they could. None of these people were ever charged with crime; they fought in War, paid
their taxes, raised children and in some way, contributed to the well being of everyone.
