Millen/Millin - Jefferson County PA (from Ireland)
Hugh and Esther Wilson Millen/Millin came to the US in 1819. Hugh's two bachelor brothers Joseph and Charles also settled in the same area along with a cousin Joseph who married Polly Brown. They all settled in Jefferson County Pennsylvania in a community of other Irish immigrants from the same N. Ireland neighborhood and formed a Presbyterian Church (just southwest of Brookville). Hugh and Esther had 8 children Joseph, James, John, Hugh Wilson, Mary Ellen, Nancy, Esther, and Barbara. Hugh was born in 1786 and Esther was born in 1788. They spelled their names both Millen and Millin during their lives but their tombstones use Millin. The descendents of their children have adopted both spellings. Most of the oiginal Millins are buried in Beaver Run Cemetery.
I am looking to connect with other Millen/Millin descendents and find out more about their early times in Jefferson County. I am also looking for any information on their origins in Ireland. Family history has them coming form Coleraine. Other families in their church were Kelso, Kennedy, Shields, Morrison, McGill, McGriffin, Dickey, Ferguson, Andrews, Smith, Barr, and McGarey who might have also come from the same area of Ireland.
Here are the childrens names with spouses-
Joseph m Margret(?)
James m Jane Hill
John m Ann Jane Hawthorne (my gg-grandparents)
Hugh Wilson m Annie Kinnear
Mary Ellen Newcomb m John McIntosh
Nancy m Jacob Steele
Barbara m Charles Temple
Esther m Norman Galbraith
Any other Jeff County Millen/Millins out there?
