Milligan, Ireland
I keep running across the name Milligan as I research my Gass ancestors in Armagh, Ireland, and wonder if any of the Milligan researchers have come across Gass?
James Gass farmed at Corernagh in Ballymore, Armagh, from before 1793 to 1839.A William Milliganalso had acreage in Ballymore duromg that time..
When myancestor John Gass married Mary MacDowell on Sept 24 1849 in St.Anne's, Belfast, Richard Milligan was a witness. The other witness was John Horrick to whom John Gass had been apprenticed in Belfast as a hatchel maker. Perhaps Richard Milligan was a fellow apprentice and/or the son of William Milligan.
I also found many Milligans recorded in 1826-42 deaths in Kirkcudbright parish, Scotland, and 76 Milligans in Wanlickhead as I tried, unsuccessfully, to substantiate a family story that we Gasses had emigrated from Arbigland in Kirkbean parish of Kirkcudbright. Sorry , but I didnt record these Milligans.
