Marilyn A. O'Brien of Des Plaines since 1974 A Mass for Marilyn A. O'Brien (nee Millin), 78, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 794 Pearson, Des Plaines. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines. Born April 6, 1929, in Oak Park, she passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge surrounded by her children. Marilyn and her brother Doug grew up in Oak Park. She attended DePaul University and married James O'Brien in 1953. With him, she raised seven children. Marilyn was a Des Plaines resident for more than 30 years. She worked for O'Brien the Florist for close to 20 years and opened her own flower shop, Marilyn's Flowers and Things, in 1991. Marilyn was an active member of the community, serving on several boards and committees. She was a longtime member of the United Way, the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Consumer Protection Agency, the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce and Soroptimist International. Involved as she was, Marilyn always made time for her children and growing brood of grandchildren, instilling in them the strong set of values with which she lived her life. Marilyn leaves behind an extended family including her children, Ellen A. Panegasser (nee O'Brien), Kevin P. O'Brien. Martin J. (Julie) O'Brien, Margaret M. (Steven) Losey, Timothy J. (Lora) O'Brien, Steven T. O'Brien and Ann M. (Brian) Bending; grandchildren, Rob Panegasser, James Panegasser, Mark Panegasser and Katie Panegasser, Sean O'Brien, Will O'Brien, Maggie Losey, Jaime Losey, Julianne O'Brien, Danielle O'Brien, Dempsey Bending and Nicole Bending; great-grandchildren, Austin Panegasser, Jenessa Panegasser, Gabriella Panegasser, Michael Rocco Panegasser and Lily Panegasser; and brother, Douglas M. (Barbara) Millin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O'Brien; parents, Douglas and Ellen (nee Sheely) Millin; and sister-in-law, Patricia Millin.
