Hello Mr. Miltimore : I have stumbled across some curious information about the Arthur McArthur family of Limington, ME. I am not in any way related. I found this information in the course of re- searching Civil War units here in the Sabine Parish, LA area. I believe Arthur & Sarah Miltimore McArthur had at least 2 sons. These were William & Arthur. Arthur McArthur, Jr. was Capt. ( later Maj. ) of Co. A, 6th LA Infantry. He was killed at Winchester, VA on 25 May 1862. William Miltimore McArthur was probably Capt. ( later Col. ) of Co. I, 8th Maine Infantry. There is some probability that Wm. M. got wind of his brother's death, came and retrieved the body and took it somewhere for burial ( possibly Maine -- but doubtful ). I just wanted to pass this anecdote on to someone up north who might appreciate a real illustration of what a cruel affair the Civil War really was !!! Regards ............ Rocky Wright in Sabine Par., LA. Notify Administrator about this message?
