My mother always told me that her Minyard line were German, but referred to themselves as "Black Dutch" .Her cousin told me a few years ago the the Minyards were Huguenots from France that came to American to escape persecution in Europe.I find there is an area along the German/French line where these families may have originated from as stated in other posts. My grandmother, who was a Minyard, mentioned that their name was spelled a little different but was changed when they came to America.
A distant Minyard relative says that her grandmother told her that a ship carrying a Minyard clan tried to dock in a northern port, but that there was cholera on board so they had to sail farther south to deboard. Many died, but with the help of friendly Indians a number survived in what is now SC or GA.There was no indication of whether they came from England or other parts of Europe.Although there are various spellings of the Minyard name, there is a thought that we are all related in some way.
