I have over 200 Mirkes and Merkes surnamed individuals in my database, all descendants of Paul Mirkes of Niedergeckler, Germany, late 17th Century. One of his descendants was Phillip Mirkes, who died in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1925. Phillip was married to Catherine Strenski and Mary Dorschner. Phillip is the ancestor of most of the Mirkes/Merkes of Wisconsin. Phillip's cousin Margaretha Mirkes married Nick Wagner and founded a large line of Wagners in Arkansas.
