According to O’Laughlin’s Complete Book of Irish Names with over 20,000 names with locations, arms and origins, I found many ways to spell Miskimen. Who knows the proper spelling! Here is a list from the book of the various spellings for this surname:
Miskimmin, Miskimmon, Cummins, Maskimon, Misskimmins, M’Coming, Meskimmon, Moskimmon, Commane, Commins, Common, Commons, Comyns, Comjeens, Comjean, Cowman, Cumin., Cuming, Cumings, Cumins, Cummens, Cumming, Cummings, Cummins, Kimmins, M’Skimmins, Missett [ancient name, found in Dublin, Waterford and Cork; came to Ireland in 1711 (Norman)] and Misskimmins (found in Antrim County).

My gggrandfather Thomas Miskimans came to Renfrew County, Ontario in 1845 from Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. The Miskimans name is spelled various ways, by him and his family, according to Census and Marriage Records. Sometimes it is spelled Miskimmon, Miskimmons, Miskimman, Miskimmin, Miskimmins and Miskimmans I also have been in contact with another Miskimmins family branch from Ireland with some family members dropping the “s”. They were from County Down in Ireland and one branch came to Hamilton, Ontario about 1910. My branch has spread to all parts of Canada. Anyone connected?
