I am looking for connections with Backes/Backus families in the Cass CO. Area. My Nicholas Thielen m. Anna Backes in Wadena CO, nearby in 1887. Also married at that time was Nicholas' sister, Maria to John Halfen. Anna's sister later married Thomas Mertz. All of MN. I have little on the Backes or Mertz familes and no ancestors for the Thielen family and was interested that there was a Backus, MN and adjacent to Wadena.
