Wendy, Ira was married to the equally illusive Olive ??. She was supposedly born in VT and died somewhere before 1847 when Ira was remarried to Mehitable Chandler Varnum. Ira died in 1857. I have a lot of info on Mehitable's parents but not much on her two children from her first marriage.

I know that Ira was living in Onondaga, Onondaga, NY between 1820 and 1835. He was on the censuses 1820 and 1830 and is listed in two history books as living there in 1835 as a wagon maker. Five of his six children were born during this period of time. But there are no bapt records for them.

I found a marriage record for his son Norman who was born in VT. It said in 1831 he "married a Mrs Fury, and with this union became his father's brother, uncle to his siblings and the father of quite a family of children". He must have married the much younger sister of either his father or mother. But I don't know her first or maiden name. I can't find a Mr Fury who left her widowed. In the 1860 and 1870 census Norman is found with wife Juliette who was born much too late to be Mrs Fury. So he must have married twice. No children are listed on these censuses.

I should probably try harder to find Ira's second wife's descendents. I have doubts that they would have kept records of their mother's second marriage but it may be worth a shot.

Are you still living in MN? Marilyn
