Hi Patrick, The McGaffey's were Presbyterians when they left Scotland and immigrated to Ireland. They were persecuted by the Catholic's, therefore the reason they moved to America. As far as I could find in my research, my particular branch of McGaffey's came to America about 1719/20 and settled in New Hampshire.... on to Ohio...and ended up in St Joseph County, Michigan around 1830. From there the children of William & Mary Yazel McGaffey moved to Indiana, Michigan and Iowa. My Great great grandparents, David and Jane Drummond McGaffey moved to Pittsburg, Van Buren County, Iowa around 1857/8, moving with Jane's parents and siblings. In Pittsburg, Iowa, they became members of the Espicopal Methodist Church. After my grandfather grew up and moved to Washington, Iowa, he became of member of the Presbyterian Church... coming full circle with his heritage. I have no knowledge of any Catholicism in the family history. My understanding of the Minnesota McGaffey's is they attended the Methodist Church at Money Creek??? Valorie
