Marilyn,

Looking at the 1880 census for Jackson County, I find an A.B. Tompkins living in the Village of Jackson with a wife named Lois age 75 while A.B. is 87 years old, born in New York and a retired farmer. An Effie Lindsly, age 13, granddaughter, is with them. Also, in the village is an A.N. Tompkins, age 50, born in NY and a millwright. He has a wife named Amanda, age 44. Some children are with them.

Looking in the 1910 History of Jackson County, it lists that A.B. Tomkins built a residence in 1872 in Jackson for $400.

Since they were in Jackson Village for at least eight years, then they are probably buried in Riverside Cemetery on the south side of the village. I have a person buried there in 1888 so perhaps the cemetery existed a number of years earlier. The Jackson County Historical Society states that this cemetery is indexed. You can reach the Society at the following address:

307 N. Hwy 86/PO Box 238
Lakefield, MN 56150
Tel: 507-662-5505

Also, The Jackson Cemetery Association at:

PO Box 44
Jackson, MN 56143

You can reach the Jackson County website at:

You may find it interesting.

Good Luck! L. Salyards
