Donna & Stacey,

Small World--Greetings from a neighbor in nearby Rochester. I came here many years ago from Jackson to work for KODAK.

I did some browsing today to see what I could find for you. I had a Von Ohlen (note spelling) a year or two ahead of me in Jackson High School. First of all, I went to the national "white pages" and found a Nicholas/Nick Von Ohlen in Jackson County, north of the village of Alpha in Kimball Township, Section 36. I looked at a map of Jackson County which shows land owners and it showed Nick Ohlen in Section 36. I then went to a flyer which I got at the Jackson County Historical Society which shows the churches of the county. Lo and behold, right across the road in Section 35 is Immanuel Lutheran Church. The flyer also says that the cemetery is indexed.

Reading the biography of the church in the 1979 Jackson County History, it appears to be a thriving church with a somewhat new facility. It was founded in the late 1800s for German immigrants. A number of years ago when I was back in Jackson, I did some research in the cemetery which is right behind the church.

I attempted to contact a couple of people back in Jackson who would know about the Von Ohlen family but, unfortunately, both were not available. One is a widow of a half, second-cousin of mine and grew up just south of there and could have told us more about the family.

Doing an advanced GOOGLE search on "Kimball Immanuel Lutheran Church," I came up with the following:

Immanuel Lutheran Church
88945 600th Ave
Alpha, MN 5611-5645
1-507-639-5645

The national white pages shows the following:

Nick Von Ohlen
58681 890th St.
Alpha, MN 5611-3203
1-507-847-5835

I hope this helps. Enjoy the weather today and tomorrow.

L. Salyards
