================================================= Submitted by: Cathy Porter-Maynard Email: MayThree@aol.com ================================================= Greetings, We have discovered that Arba K. Maynard (b. 1803 Madison Co., NY; d. 1894, MN), was a "Judge of the Marine Court," in New York. [In addition, Arba's son, Graydon G. Maynard, was listed in the 1860 New York census as an "Officer of the Marine Court," as was a gentleman by the name of Butler Maynard, who resided in the Ward 9, as did Graydon G. Maynard.] I had not come across the term(s) "Judge of the Marine Court," and/or "Officer of the Marine Court" before. Could anyone please give me an idea of what the Marine Court was? And, what a position in this court entailed? And, did being "Judge of the Marine Court" differ from the jurisdiction and/or duties of other judges? I sincerely appreciate any insight that may be offered. Peace & blessings, Cathy Porter-Maynard (in Minnesota) <>< ================================================= "History of Chenango and Madison Counties" - Chapter 17. CHAPTER XVII. TOWN OF BAINBRIDGE.
