Emily Smith, born 1839, Connecticut

I have been told, that according to the 1870 census, Emily Smith was born in 1838 in "Connecticut". I have a copy of the original census in front of me. George was born in "Ind" and Emily has " under his Indiana.
Her husband, George R. Smith was born on February 13, 1741, in Delaware County, IN.
On the 1880 census, both George and his wife, Emily L. Smith are listed as born in "Indiana".
Because George came to Ottawa, MN, with his father in 1857, there is a possibility that Emily was not also from "Indiana". (They may have met in Minnesota.) Her full birth date is December 8, 1839.
Over 30 years ago, I was told that Emily's maiden name was "Smith". I would like to locate her parents and learn if this is true. Can anyone help me?
MaryLu
