I've "rescued" a group of photographs all appearing to belong to the GABRIO Family of Hutchinson, Minnesota and Kankakee, Illinois. The first is a photograph of Virgil George GABRIO taken at the A. Jensen Studio in Hutchinson, MN. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Virgil looking to be 3-4 years old at the time.
Virgil's date of birth is noted as May 26th, 1888 at Hutchinson, MN in McLeod County. The second is a photograph of Stella and Roy GABRIO and includes no reference to studio location or photographer's name. I would guess that the photograph was taken in the 1890's sometime and that both subjects are in their teens or early 20's at the time.
The third and fourth photographs are identical copies of a young woman taken at the J.W. Powell Studio in Kankakee, IL and appear to have been given to Mr. & Mrs. GABRIO as their name appears on the back of one of the photographs. In addition (in the same hand) someone has written "Sylva wife" on the back of one of these copies.
Based on limited research I do find Stella GABRIO age 8 months b. in MN living with her parents in Hutchinson, Minnesota during the 1880 census. Her parents are Julius & Ella GABRIO ages 27 and 20, Julius born in Canada to Canadian born parents and Ella born in Iowa to parents both born in Iowa.
I was hoping to find someone from this family so that these wonderful old family photographs could be returned to the care of family, however, I was not successful so I have passed the photographs along to the Minnesota Genealogical Society in hopes that they might have better luck. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact them.
