The cemetary records have a lot of Fletchers. Alsemena was born in Hamilton New York (perhaps William was too and this could account for the discrency between what the census said-Hamilton England-and what your family said-born in the U.S.}
There is a listing for a Joseph Fletcher born 1789-which would probably be about the right age for the Joseph you are looking for. Whether it is him or not not sure. It doesn't list a birth place. Could be a clue though.
Look around the site though-seems to be alot of Fletchers.
