Hi, TJ. Reading through the messages, I saw where you are nearby and might be able to help me.
I have Rene Scheffer, born 26 Aug. 1879 in Crow Wing, Ramsey Co. At any rate, he was on the 1880 census there with his grandparents, Joseph and Margueritte PLANTE, both born in French Canada. Uncle Phileas and his wife, Julia, also lived with the family.
I need to find out if his parents, Gustave and Louise Plante Scheffer, both born in French Canada, died in the county.
Neither grandparent was on the 1900 census, so perhaps they went back to Canada or died between 1880 and 1895. Neither were his aunt and uncle on the 1900 census.
In 1895, Rene still lived in Crow Wing.
In 1900, he still lived in Crow Wing with his uncle and aunt, Ihibader and Eliza Edward.
He was in the Philippine Islands by 1910.
He died 1917 of TB at Fort Bayard, NM.
So would there be files of deaths betwwen 1879 and 1900? 1900 was the last I found any of his relatives in Crow Wing.
I could rent film from the FHC if I knew any information actually exists for this time period.
