You've been most informative, TJ, and thank you. I wonder if perhaps church records are the best way to go for the French Canadians who died prior to 1900?
But chances are, they would be in French.
If you can easily check the PLANTE, SCHEFFER, and EDWARD family, I would be most grateful, but since there are no firm dates and they died prior to the collection of records, please don't spend too much time on them.
I live in Hampton, VA, across Hampton Roads from Norfolk. Do you need any colonial Virginia research?
