Thomas Nicholas, a Private of Captain De Wolfs, Company K, of the Forty Seventh Regiment of United States Illinois Inf was enlisted by Sergeant Dansfiled of the 47 Regiment of Ill Vol INf at Wyoming Ill on the 12th day of October 1861, to serve 3 years; he was born in Vinton County in the state of Ohio is Twenty two years of age, 5 feet inches high, light complexion, gray eyes, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer during the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days. Said soldier has been unfit for duty four months in consequnece of Diarrhea contracted at pittsburgh landing.

I, Thomas Nicholas of Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Home, in the County of Adams and State of Illinois, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do, therefore, make, ordain, publish and declare, this to be my last WILL and Testament.
First. I order and direct that my Executor hereinafter named, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as son after my decease as conveniently may be.
Second. After the payment of such funeral expenses and debts, I give, devise and bequeath all worldy goods of which I may die possessed, to My wife, Mrs. Mary J. Nicholas, Osborn, DeKalb County Missouri.
Lastly, I make, constitute and appoint Mw Somerville Supt. Or his successor in office to be Executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby reoking all former Wills by me made.

Thomas Nicholas, of the town of Wyoming, in the County of Stark, and State of Illinois, formerly a soldierof the United States of America, in the war against (1) the late Rebellion, respectfully asks that he be admitted as a member of said Home.
To enable the authorities to determine whether or not he is legally entitled to become a member of said Home, he declares and states the facts to be that he is now 63 years old; that he is 5 feet and 7 inches high; that he is Fair complexion, Blue eyes and Gray hair; that he was born in the town of Vinton County, State of Ohio, on the 15th day of Feby, 1839, that he has been once enrolled in the U.S.A. service in the war charged from the services of the United States. That the following is a true statement of the time and palce of his enrollment, and discharge from said service, and that the cause of his discharge, and of his rank at the respective date thereof namely:

That his post office is Osborn Mo, State of; that his nearest railway station is Osborn, on the CB&Q Railway, in DeKalb County, in said state: that the name and address of the person, to whom eh desires notice of his illness or death shall be given, is Mary J. Nicholas, of Osborn, County of DeKalb State of Missouri; that, in case of his death, he desires all personal effects be sent to Mary J. Nicholas, at Osborn County of DeKalb State of Missouri. That he is now a bona fide resident of the State of Illinois and has continuouolsy lived and resided in said State for the last two years, or has served in an Illinois organization. That he is so far disabled by Weak Eyes, Rhematism, Varicose Veins on Left leg. as to now be incapable of earning his own living.

PASSED AWAY
Thomas Nicholas, aged 77 years, passed away at his home on North Walnut street at 10:30 o'clock Saturday night, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis recently suffered. Funeral services were held at the Christian church at 2'oclock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.W. Kilborn. The body was taken to Osborn for interment. Services at the cemetery were conducted by members of the Grand Army.
Thomas Nicholas married Mary Jane Colwell, daughter of Henry Colwell and Elizabeth Dawson, on 23 September 1864 in Stark County, Illinois. Mary was born on 9 March 1843 in Stark County, Illinois and died on 6 January 1928 in Cameron, Clinton County, Missouri at age 84. She is buried in Osborn Evergreen Cemetery, Osborn Missouri, Clinton County. Thomas Nicholas died of a stroke of paralysis according to his obituary and he lived on North Walnut Street in Osborn Missouri also according to his obituary.

Word was received recently of the death of death of Mrs. Mary Nicholas, which occurred at her home in Cameron Mo. last Friday. She was 85 years old. The funeral and burial took place Sunday afternoon at Cameron. Mrs. Nicholas was well known here having visited here frequently. She was an aunt of F.W. and W.P. Nicholas and Mrs. James Corken.

AGED CAMERON RESIDENT DIES
George W. Nicholas, 89, passed away at the Cameron Community Hospital Saturday morning. He was a retired farmer. The only surviving relative is Mrs. Roy Ellis, a niece. Rev. W. Spotswood, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted the funeral at the Crunk Chapel Monday afternoon at 2:30. Burial was in the Osborn Cemetery.

Arthur Nicholas, age about 70, of Tampa, Fla., passed away Tuesday morning at about 9 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Asa Witt, of heart trouble, from which he had been bedfast for the past week. At this writing the funeral arrangements had not been made. Deceased has been here visiting his daughter, Mrs. Witt, and another daughter, Mrs. Harry Groves, of Cameron, this winter. He had been in poor health for some time. He spent a short time this winter visiting a son, Ralph, in Pocotella, Idaho. He also leaves to mourn his loss two other daughters in Florida. The body was to Cameron Tuesday morning to the Poland Funeral Home. The entire community extends their deepest sympathy.

Ed Nicholas Dies of Heart Attack
Mr. Ed Nicholas, old and highly regarded resident, passed away this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, following a heart attack in his home. Deceased had not been well for some time but was able to attend his duties at the Fletcher Barber shop until recently. Mr. Nicholas is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roy Ellis, this city and two brother, George Nicholas, Cameron, and Otis Nicholas, Los Angeles, Calif. The body will lie in state at the Poland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the Christian Church, of which he was a member at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.

Funeral services for Ralph Arthur Ncholas, who died Wednesday morning, will be held at the Aberdeen high school auditorium Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Paul De F. Mortimore of the Christian church of Pocatello officiating, assisted by Rev. P.A. Wedel of Aberdeen. The remains will be taken to Aberdeen Saturday morning and will lie in state at the Coon Johnson home from 10a.m. until 1:30 p.m., when it will be taken to the high school for funeral services. Friends wishing to see Mr. Nicholas may call at the McHan funeral home on South Arthur until Saturday. Internment will be in the Mountainview cemetery in Pocatello.

Harry W. Witt, 80, passed away July 3, 2004, at the Missouri Veterans Home. Harry was born February 17, 1924, to Asa H. and Ethel Witt of Osborn, MO. Harry was a farmer and a US Navy veteran, serving his country in WWII. He married Goldie Hutchins in 1947. Goldie, his parents, and sister Laverna Altis preceded him in death. Harry is survived by a son and his wife, Michael and Vicki Witt, Lee's Summit, MO; grandsons Derek Witt, Port Angeles, WA, and Chad Witt, El Segundo, CA; and great-grandson Ryan Witt. Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at PolandThompson Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. prior to the service.
