Hi and thanks but no cigar this time.... My grandmother was named Maud May Dorsey b. Pilot Grove, Mo. according to her social security application. I don't think she really knew her exact birthdate or she fibbed a lot on census records. I believe she is the Maudie May Dorsey, on the 1900 Autauga Co. Kansas census with father James Dorsey, in household of H.Buck and family. If so, Maud was born in May about 1890.
However, someone other than James must have given the census data as his birthdate is unknown.
But, you theory isn't bad, and as good as mine. Lately, we have found a "marriage certificate" dated 1911 for my Maud Dorsey and her husband John Arthur in Dallas,Texas. But, it is just like Maud, a mystery... as it is not a registered license at all, but a lovely old record anyway.
Thanks for your help. Carol Jones
