To all descendants of VALENTINE DAME. I am truly one excited individual! I am recently in possession of a very old trunk that apparently belonged to my grx2 grandfather, Pleasant C. Dame of the Flatwoods community. This trunk has passed down my line of the family through his son, William Valentine Dame, to his son Everett Elmer Dame (my grandfather), to his son William Loran Dame (deceased 3/12/2008). It contains several packets of very old original documents, a few pertaining to Pleasant C. Dame's father, Valentine Dame, including this letter of testamentary which reads as follows:
County of Dallas SS
The State of Missouri, to all persons to whom these presents shall come, greeting:
KNOW YE, That whereas Valentine Dame late of the county of Dallas died intestate, as it is said, having, at the time of his death, property in this State which may be lost, destroyed or diminished in value, if speedy care be not taken of the same, to the end; therefore, that said property may be collected, preserved and disposed of according to law, we do appoint P.C. Dame administrator of all and singular, the goods and chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said Valentine Dame at the time of his death, with full power and authority to secure and dispose of said property according to law, and collect all moneys due said deceased, and in general to do and perform all other acts and things which are or hereafter may be required of him by law.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Jesse L. Paine Clerk of County court in and for the county of Dallas aforesaid, have hereunto signed my name, and affixed the seal of said court, at office, this 21st day of Nov. A.D. 1853.

This document answers at least one of the questions family and researchers have been asking for decades. Altho we have no recorded date for Valentine Dame's death, we know now that he died prior to November 21, 1853.
Packaged with the above court form, was a record of an estate sale. This list is not dated or otherwise identified, but from the apparent age of the document and the list of purchasers, I believe it to be from the estate of Valentine Dame. There were many buyers listed, but the primary ones were P.C. Dame, J.C. McVay (Melinda Ellen Dame's husband), and Bazel Rose, with one purchase made by Mary Dame.
Also with these two documents was a small handwritten note, which I have typed here exactly as it was written: "received of P C Dame in full of my claims against the estate of valentine Dame decesed, this may the 3 1858. Mary Dame"
I believe this Mary Dame to be Valentine and Nancy's daughter and the one listed on the estate sale record.
These documents are very fragile but highly legible and are in what I consider to be very good condition given their age. The embossed county seal can still be felt on the letter of testamentary altho the words or dates are no longer legible.
There is no mention of Valentine's wife, Nancy, in any of these documents, so I am assuming she predeceased him. I would very much like to know the identity of Bazel Rose's wife, mainly because he was one of the primary buyers in the estate sale. The 1860 census of Dallas county gives her name as Elizabeth age 29 born in TN, which fits the age and birth state of Valentine's daughter, Elizabeth, who was 19 in 1850 census. In the 1860 census Bazel and Elizabeth have a daughter, Nancy age 2.
