This is the census record of her with her grandparents in 1880: Ravanna, Mercer Co. Missouri, in 1880. Benjamin A. Bryan - 58 Tn Sarah A. - wife 55 Tn Elizabeth C. - daug 28 Mo Ahaz - son 23 Mo Amanda C. - daug 21 Mo William P. - son 19 Mo Thomas W. - son 17 Mo Nancy C. - daug 13 Mo Johnathan - son 10 Mo ...(Footnote!)-Johnathan was actually the Grandson of Benj. A. Bryan and the son of Eliza Jane Bryan who had died ...14 Mar 1876 in child birth, and he was living with his Half-Sister Harriet Webb at their Grand-Father's home because ...of their Mother's earlier death. - - - - as per David W. Bryan, G-grand-son of Ahaz W. Bryan b.1857. Webb, Harriet A. - granddaug. 7 Mo Eliza Jane - grdaug. 3 Mo . .....(Footnote: Eliza's Death Certif. States Amanda,---- as her Mother, Father is ----,Bryan) . I believe it was Amanda C. Bryan who had a child Eliza in 1877 in Ravanna, Mercer Co., MO, father Unknown, and in Jul 1883 she gave birth to a Son George, Father Unknown. One Judd book states that she (Amanda) was married to a George Bryan, who fathered the children, but the only viable George Bryan I find, is living in Thomasville, several miles East and he is married with a young family. Of course the BIG Elephant in the room is, were Amanda Bryan & this George Bryan Related? And who are the parents of this George? The Judd book mentions that George Sr. died shortly after George Jr. was born in 1883, but I find no evidence of that either. . Jarrett E. Taylor married their Mother in Powersville, Putnam Co, Missouri About 1889 and they divorced Abt 1892, No children were born from this marriage. . Amanda moved to Oregon county around 1890 and she took her Son George b.Jul 1883 & daughter Eliza Jane Clementine Bryan b:10 Apr 1877. Eliza at age 14 married Heman William (Bill) Judd, Jr. of Alton twp, Oregon Co., MO on 13 May 1891 in Alton, and settled west of Rover in Highland twp., Oregon Co., Missouri. . After divorcing Jarrett Taylor, Amanda met and married Sterling Franklin "Will" Bates of Alabama in 1892, he was living in Jackson, North twp., Sharp Co., Arkansas (just south of Oregon Co., Missouri) and they settled near Alton in Piney twp., Oregon Co., Missouri. (see the following Note!) (Note: from John Bryan - "According to the recollections of my father and my uncle Ed Bryan, Amanda married a man named Will Bates in Mercer County Mo.and about 1890 or so moved to south Missouri near Arkansas. - I am a great grandson of Benjamin and Sarah Keener Bryan." per John Bryan of Louisburg Kansas . Children of Sterling & Amanda: ----------------------------- Don Arthur Bates b.17 Sep 1893 d. 23 Mar 1958 Buried in Smith Cemetery, Piney twp., Oregon Co., MO Mabel Bates b.--/--/ 1895 (Possible Marriage to Fred Arnold Mason of Roby, Texas, Missouri ?) Carl Bates b. 9 May 1897 d. 21 Jul 1907 Buried in Smith Cemetery, Piney twp., Oregon Co., MO Schelly Dewey Bates b. 3 Nov 1899 d. 10 Oct 1990 Buried in Smith Cemetery, Piney twp., Oregon Co., MO Clell Bates b.31 Dec 1900 d. Feb 1984 in Templeton, San Luis Obispo Co., California. George continued to live with his Mother, Amanda C. (Bryan) Bates & Step-Father S.F."Will" Bates, until 1900 as the census records show. I then show a George Bryan in 1910 Living as a "boarder" with Mr. Charles E. Holland in the town of Birch Tree, Shannon Co., Missouri. Just a few miles north of Piney twp., Oregon Co., Missouri. . A concern of mine is in 1900 the same year that George {Brien}sp Bryan born Jul 1883, appears living with his Mother Amanda & S.F. "Will" Bates, and he is listed as "S-Son". A George Bryan also appears living as a "Boarder" with Eliza Jane Clementine (Bryan) Judd & her husband William Heman "Bill" Judd near Rover in Highland twp. Oregon Co., Missouri. His birthdate is given as Mar 1881. I couldn't imagine him being counted twice within a week's time, and his birth Month & Year are Both different! which I can't conceive of as a typo error on both items!! . Perhaps someone could shed some light and Confirm, to whom these teenagers belonged ?????? .
