Article Title: St. Louis Globe Democrat

Article Date: March 25 1880

Article Description: A Heartless Husband.

Article Text:

Mary SEARLES, a poor colored woman, arrived in St. Louis yesterday, all the way from Jefferson County, to discover that her husband had proved heartless and faithless. He had come to St. Louis with a load of hogs to sell and had written back to his wife that his horse was injured, and for her to bring another one to take the place of the disabled animal. She borrowed a horse, and with her two little children came to the city only to learn that her husband had sold horse, wagon and hogs, and run off to Kentucky. She was cared for by some colored people.
