I believe that the Mary Jane Mobley that you refer to is my 3g-grandmother. She was born abt. 1822 (based on age in 1860 census, Murray Co., GA) in GA. She married John Bates and had at least three children: Martha, Green Berry (known as Berry), and George Columbus Bates. Another son, Washington Bates, has been suggested by others, but I have not seen the documentation on this. She later married Paul Brinegar, with whom she had another son, Henry Frank Brinegar. From what I have heard, Mary Jane died in AR on 24 Mar 1910, the year before the state started keeping death records. If this looks like it may be the right Mary Jane, please let me know what documentation there is to confirm her parents' identity.
