My grandfather was John Lawrence Mobley from Martin County, NC. He came to Georgetown, SC in 1875 and bought 1200 acres of land for .50 an acre. He married Mary Virginia Braswell in Georgetown March 1877. She was from Elm City, NC. He did not marry Mary Elizabeth Bullock. My uncle Joe Wynn gave the wrong name to someone from NC who called and ask for family history. Mary Elizabeth was his grandmother and a relative of the Mobleys. John Lawrence and Mary Virginia had 14 children, six died as children, eight lived to have families. My father Ralph Edward Mobley was the youngest, born 9/10/1899. I have gone to Martin County, NC and talked with a Hughes. I understand that my grandfather was from an area called Bear Grass. I know he had a brother named McGilbert Mobley. He bought the 1200 areas with my Grandfather. I have a copy of the deed when my Grandfather bought McGilbert's interest when McGilbert returned to NC. My e-mail address is moby1sccoast.net
