Jan--Middleton the Tory's wife was Dorcas Sims. Rachel was
the wife of another (later) Middleton. I too am desc from
Middleton, thru Surrell, Middleton b1800-d1863. Middleton Senior was chosen by his fellow planters who were Tories to be their Leader, thus it would seem he was respected by his peers. Dorcas was able to buy back her husband's lands that had been forfeited--Sampson land records. The name Middleton was carried by several later relativess, which also indicates a measure of respect.
