Hi Michael,
Thanks for your posting. I have information from www.familysearch.org on a Family Group Record that James Eli Mobley and his wife Elizabeth Swindle are buried in the Gum Branch Cemetery, Liberty, GA. I plan to verify this by visiting the Gum Branch Cemetery soon.

There is an entry in “Fort Stewart Cemeteries” on page 34 line 26 of the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery – sometimes referred to as the Todd-Ray Cemetery. Entry shows: “Mobley, Elizabeth, wife of James E. Mobley, Sep 5,1884-Sep 1, 1912 with a Note ‘The Willie Community book lists her as Elizabeth Swindel. Her maiden name was Joicie Elizabeth Swindle.”

I cannot find any reference to ‘Joicie’ Elizabeth Swindle in ‘The Willie Community’ book. There is Swindel, Elizabeth (9/2/1854-9/1/1912) listed in the Ray section of Bethany Cemetery listing on page 302. I could not find a James E. (or Eli) Mobley listed in the cemetery, although there are a number of unmarked graves in that area of the cemetery. James Elis Mobley and Elizabeth Swindell Mobley are mentioned on page 225 of the book as parents of Leila Victoria Mobley that married William Butler Ray. They also mentioned again on page 226 as parents of Rosa Elizabeth Mobley that married Benjamin Franklin Ray.

Also check out www.familysearch.org maintained by LSD Church. Riley Swindle (abt.1800-SC) is listed with Sarah (abt.1827). James Swindle (1803-SC) is listed twice, one time with Mrs. James Swindle (abt 1809-SC) and again with Sarah A. I sort of believe James and Riley may not be the same person as we earlier ‘guessed’. After James Swindle passed away Sarah must have then married Riley Swindle. James and Sarah A. (1829-GA) are listed in the Liberty County 1850 Census. Riley, Sarah (1829-GA), Sarah (1833-GA), and Elizabeth (1855-GA) are listed in the 1960 Liberty County Census. In 1870 Sarah A. (1831-GA) and Elizabeth (1855-GA) are listed, but neither our James or Riley were listed. Riley could be James’ middle name and he died before the 1870 Census. Could use your help on this.

You mentioned in one reply that Elizabeth was adopted by Henry Alexander Swindle her brother?? Henry Alexander Swindle adopted her October 9, 1863, but I don’t believe Henry Alexander Swindle is her brother, as then he would need to be James or Riley’s child. There is also a Henry Aquilla Swindle that is George D. Swindle’s son. If you have any information on Henry Alexander Swindle’s parents, please advise.

Hope I didn’t confuse you too much, but it seems the more data I accumulate the more complicated. Thanks! Earl
