Air Force Recruiter Slain

A young man has been jailed in the hunting - knife slaying of an Air Force sergeant.

Witnesses who subdued the assailant quoted him as saying, "He's going to die, He's going to die. He's sending people to Vietnam."

Sgt. R. D. Mobley. 32, fought his attacker until the youth was overpowered by a restaurant owner and a real estate broker. Mobley died of knife wounds in the chest, face and arms.

Massoud Maxi Khashabi, 32, owner of a coffee shop under the second - floor recruiting office on Shattuck Square near the University of California, said he heard loud crashes overhead at midmorning Friday.

He said he rushed upstairs to find Sgt. Mobley bleeding profusely but still struggling with his attacker and grasping the wrist of a hand which still held a bloody hunting knife with a six - inch blade.
