Didn't find much. According to 1880 census of Young, TX 4th Precinct:
Allen M. Mobley was born 1830 VA..his parents born SC

Ellen L. was born in Mississippi

Their children at this time were:
George W
James E
Wm J
Sarah I
Nancy V
Henry H
Martha E
ISAAC N
John

Can you get a copy of Ellen's death certificate? It may contain the info you seek.
Do you know how Allen got from VA to TX...or when? That may offer some help too.
