" A Memorial and Biographical History of Johnson and Hill County Texas" pages 688-689, published in 1892 in Chicago, by The Lewis Publishing Company.

" S. D. MOBLEY, of Cleburn, Johnson county, was born in Fairfield County, South Carolina, the third of twelve children born to Dr. Samuel S. [F.] and Mary E. (RICE) MOBLEY, also natives of South Carolina, and of English descent. The family settled in South Carolina long before the Revolutionary war, and the grant of land from George III. of England to this family has been seen by our subject, but was destroyed by fire when the old homestead was burned by negroes in 1878.
Dr. Samuel F. MOBLEY was a prominent physician of thirty years' practice in South Carolina, and died in Hood county, Texas, in June, 1890, at the age of seventy years; the mother died at the same place in 1883. Eight of their children reached years of maturity; Marian G., deceased, was the wife of Major WILKS, of Chester, South Carolina; James B., a stock-raiser of Lubbock county; S.D., our subject; Sallie M., wife of John C. COLEMAN; Rebecca, wife of Dolphos ROBINSON; John J., a locomotive fireman on the G., C. & S.F. railroad; Theodore; and Bettie, wife of Rev. C. T. SCAIFE, of Woodruff, South Carolina.
Our subject spent his school-days at King's Mountain Military Institute, South Carolina. He was married in Cleburn, in 1885, to Miss Mattie GEORGE, a daughter of D.C. and Mary (SCOTT) GEORGE, natives of South Carolina. Mr. MOBLEY has always taken an active part in politics and for five years was in the Collector and Assessor's office. He joined the K. of P. in 1888, and has filled the chairs of M.A., V.C., C.C. and P.C., and was a representative to the Grand Lodge of Texas in March, 1891. He is also a member of the I.O.O.F., and was Secretary one term of this lodge. Both he and his wife are members of the Baptist Church. Mr. MOBLEY is special agent of the Fidelity Life Insurance Company of Philadephia, and is also business manager for F.A. Scurlock, who owns about $75,000 worth of real estate in Johnson and Somervell counties."
