I am a descendant of a Mobley family of Mt. Carmel, S.C. All I know is at the time of the Civil War there were five brothers all of whom went off to fight for the Confederacy. Those who returned found nothing left and decided to go out west. The one I am descended from returned to marry his childhood sweetheart. This probably romanticised story was told by her to my father in his childhood in the 1920's. Some of the details of her stories make it sound as if her family was fairly prosperous, but family name unknown. According to the story he was 14 when he went off to war. There is some possibliity that he was a deserter and they married before the end of the war. Anyway, his name was Thomas M.(no idea what M stands for)Mobley. One of his sons was Daniel S. Mobley. Dan had at least 2 brothers. One of them was connected to the gold mine in McCormick. Dan's only son was Thomas Mabry Mobley who was my father. I am very interested finding further info. I am doing research in old family Bibles and will gladly share.
