John Mobley, b. 1835, Georgia
Posted by: J.D. McEachin Date: February 03, 2001 at 18:49:02

I'm trying to figure out what happened to John Mobley, the son of Alexander and Margaret McEachin Mobley. Alexander was a son of Ludd & Nancy Pridgen Mobley of Screven Co. GA, and Margaret the daughter of John & Sarah McNeill McEachin of Montgomery Co. GA.

Records show that Alex & Margaret married in Telfair Co. GA on June 9, 1834. According to a family history, "Margaret McEachin married a man by the name of Mobley in Irwin Co. She died leaving one child." The 1850 Census for Irwin Co. GA seems to confirm this. It shows:

Alexander Mobley, 36, b. GA, occ. Farmer
John Mobley, 16, b. GA

John had either died or left home by the time of the 1860 Census. If anyone knows what happened to him, OR if you have a John Mobley born about 1835 in Georgia that you can't place, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks
Jeffrey

PS I believe this family is mentioned on p. 339 of "Burch, Harrell and Allied Families" by Smallwood.
