CFitzu: The Mormon Church has recently released a CD that has the records of the Freedmans Bank. This was a Band established by the Govt. for freed slaves to borrow monies to get started in the free state. You can obtain this CD from the Church for $6.50 over the net at or by calling the Distribution Center at 1-800-537-5971. This CD contains over 480,000 names and links to families names, birth locations and former owners. This should help you tremendously. If you have trouble obtaining the CD; contact a local Mormon Church and someone there can help you with obtaining this CD.
I wish you luck and success. Russ Mobley
