Tom,
Thanks for your quick response to my inquiry. I will ask my aunt and uncle if they run across a Tilmon Mocaby when they were in TN doing their research. Most of our Mocaby family ended up in Franklin and Williamson Co, IL. Notably in West Frankfort, Logan and Benton, IL.I do know that they found that the Mocaby's in TN also owned an iron Foundary and that there were some landmarks named after them such as Mocaby Slough I believe. I too have found this to be a very difficult line to trace. I am not too sure how much was changed by accident and how much was changed on purpose, specially during and after the Civil War. There is very interesting article on the internet by Mary Beeson Warfield which also notes Mocaby's living in MO and KS prior and during the Civil War. It was part of her autobiography telling about her child hood years during the times up to and through the Civil War. You might find that your family was the one she was talking about by the areas she describes.
I will let you know if I find out any thing else.
Vicki Mocaby Baird
