I have in my line sisters Jean and Janet. They are daughters of Henry Purvis Moffat and Margaret Young Moffat. Henry was the son of Charles Moffat and Jean Bowhill, Berwick County, Scotland (wedding recorded in GORDON PARISH 1786). Perhaps your line came from another son of Charles and Jean, being a brother of Henry (1806-1878). They lived in Edinburgh and their children were born between 1831 and 1854. My line went from Edinburgh to New York City (following other family members, maybe yours), then back to Edinburgh, then to Quebec Canada, then Guelph Ontario Canada, then Durham Ontario.
ps - there are Catherine's and Janet's in my line, the names being used still
Hope you can find some help in this. Sandra
