Hi Meegan and Elaine,

I am the great-grandson of Francis Moffat(t) and still live a short distance from one of the original Moffat(t) houses here in Brisbane.

William Moffat's parents have stumped several of the family for years. There are two path's which may be worth pursuing.

(1) William was listed as 'William or John' at the time of his marriage to Jean/Jane, so it is worth looking for him as John instead of William.

(2) The family followed the common naming conventions for their children, and the first son was David, so that might have been the name of William/John's father.

One family member suggests no. 2 was the case and that William/John was baptised 30 Dec 1806 at Cranston.

Would love to hear how you fit into the story and any progress you make.
