John Moffat (and variations) born abt 1811 Ireland or Scotland

I'm looking for ancestry for John Moffat (incl sp variations Moffatt, Moffett) who married 'Ellen' and had son John and a daughter Anne. He was a tailor. He was living with wife Ellen and baby son in the 'Shaw Buildings', Liverpool in 1841. While baby John was born in the same county, neither father John nor Ellen were. Possibly born Scotland? but later records suggest Ireland.

Anne went on to marry into the Pickering family. They were Roman Catholics (suggesting again that the heritage is Ireland, not Scotland).

Any/all help would be gratefully received.

Alison
