Seeking information about the family of Hannah (or Nora) Gallagher, born about 1841 at Carrowcannon, Falcarragh, Co Donegal. Her father was called Cathair Gallagher. In 1866 at Gortahork she married John Moffitt of Murroe (both described as aged 23), and they had children Ellen (b 1867, Carrowcannon), John (b 1870, Carrowcannon - my grandfather), Patrick (b 1871, Corcreggan) and Charles (b 1874, Corcreggan). Patrick went to Palo Alto, by way of Cuba; Ellen also went to America, I think. Charles married one Robina and lived in Sinclair Street, Helensburgh, Scotland. Of John junior, more below. John senior and Hannah are found in the 1901 census of Scotland, living at Cove, Rosneath, Dumbartonshire. His age is given as 52, hers as 60. Living with them is a nephew (of Hannah's evidently) called Dennis Gallagher, aged 23, also born in Ireland. There are quite a few Irish-born people in this village, most of the males being described as "gardener (jobbing)". Next door are John junior, his wife Mary Collins (married Clondahorky, 1894), and their three eldest children. The first two children were born in Ireland, the third at Cove. This younger family returned to Donegal, where my mother Ellen was born in 1909 at Dunfanaghy. I would like to find out what became of John (senior) and Hannah, and to find out about Hannah's siblings and their descendents. Also anything about the origins of this Moffitt family, and their presentday representatives. Notify Administrator about this message?
