This is a long shot, but here goes. Some sons of this family ended up in New Zealand.
John Anderson Moffatt b. abt 1790 in Scotland, parents unknown. He joined the Kings Forces in the Napoleonic Wars, John Moffatt became batman to Lord Aylmer. After the war John remained with Lord Aylmer and went with him when he took up the position of Governor in Chief in Lower Canada (1831-1835). John was employed as the butler. Lady Aylmer employed a young French-Canadian girl, Elizabeth Bosquet as her maid. Lady Aylmer went blind. They all returned to England in 1837 on the ship 'Pique' and John and Elizabeth stayed with them as servants. John Moffatt later married Elizabeth Bosquet. (date unknown)
Two known sons; Harry Louis Moffatt b.1839 London d. 20 May 1913, Motueka, New Zealand; Walter Duncan Moffatt b. 26 August 1848, England, d.3 Jan 1882, Murchison, New Zealand.
I think I have found 2 other sons, William Henry Moffatt b.1842, Bethnal Green, London; George Moffatt b.1844 Bethnal green, London.
Is this family connected at all with your research.
