Hi Melanie - Barney was my GGGrandfather. I believe at the age of 16 or 17 he lived in Indianna, but his name was spelled "Maffatt." He was not living with his parents at the time. He then ended up in Illinois, first married to Sarah Reddish/Raddish. They had some children. Henry, my GGrandfather, and Ollie, his sister. The census in MacCoupin County, Illinois, showed that there were other children, but I am not sure where all of them went. A census in Jersey County, Illinois, show that these children are no longer living with Barney while married to Sarah Clowers. My GGrandfather was a "boarder' in what might be a relative's household at the age of 4 yrs. Two other Moffit children were in the same census, but listed as foster children in the homes they were living. Contact me by e-mail and I would be happy to compare notes:
