Bill, your explanation of the Morefield spellings and history is excellent. My 3rd great grandparents were Robert Hastings and Susan Mofield. It appears that they were both born in Tennessee, probably Smith County since that's where I find them in the censuses in 1850 and Robert's father John Hastings/Hasten going back to 1820. John was born in Virginia around 1793. Susan's parents appear to be Martin and Mary H. Mofield. Per the censuses, Martin and Mary H. were both born in Virginia.

My line of Hastings moved from Smith County, Tennessee to Williamson County, Illinois (Marion area) just before 1860. Martin and Mary H. Mofield also moved to Williamson County, Illinois and lived in the same area.

I haven't read through all of the posts yet and all of your information but it looks like my line could be a part of your line and Pat's. What do you guys think?

Roger Hastings
