Hi Tracy,
I am Judy Gordon, founder of the "Morefield Homeplace" on "Yahoo Groups". We have 70 members of many different spellings of the Morefield (or Mofield) name, and have come to the conclusion that they are all one in the same. My maiden name is Morefield, however, in my research I have found that my great great grandfather spelled his name without the "re", hence Mofield. It is most of our belief that it was spelled like it sounded to the record keepers, census takers, etc.. Depending on what part of the country you were in, the name may have been pronounced many different ways. Some of the various spellings that we have encountered are: Mofield, Morefield, Moorefield, Moefield, Morfield, Mourfield, name a few. The first three that I have named here are the most commonly found. I will have to review my research, but I seem to remember a reference to Smith County, Tennessee. If you would be interested in joining us, at the "Morefield Homeplace", please let me know. You may find something of interest, or there may be someone there that can assist in your research.

Judy Gordon
