Louisa Mogridge was born 14 August 1810 in
"London, England" and came to America with
her parents, Charles and Mary, when she was 11 years old. Her brother, George, came at
the same time but brother Matthias had come
a few years earlier and lived with his uncle
Samuel Mogridge. Louisa married Jeptha
Fuller Gifford and her son was in the Civil
War. He took the old family Bible for proof
of his age when he applied for a Civil War
pension. From these papers, it states this
was an old family Bible in poor condition
and the first entry was for Charles Mogridge
born 10 March 1733. It doesn't seem likely
they would have recorded some neighbor's
birth. I have always assumed this was the
father of Charles T Mogridge born about 1760
who died in 1841 but his grave marker has
deteriorated until the birth date is illegible. Mary, his wife, died 14 Aug 1843
and both are buried in Manchester Twp, Wayne
County, PA. Louisa is my great grandmother.
